Every year, municipal dispatch centers receive thousands of false alarm signals. These events put unnecessary stress on police and fire departments and can lead to costly false alarm fines for building owners. Fortunately, most false triggers can be avoided easily.
1. User Training & Secure Codes
Ensure that family members, employees, and cleaning staff are trained in alarm keypad operation. Ensure they know how to arm and disarm the system and remember the verbal passcode to cancel accidental dispatches with the monitoring center.
2. Keep Sensors Free from Dust and Debris
Dust buildup, cobwebs, and crawling insects are common triggers for infrared motion detectors and smoke sensors. Vacuuming or blowing clean air around sensors twice a year prevents false triggers caused by environmental particulate blockage.
